Do you like to ride $5,000 carbon bikes, follow strict training programs,
measure your wattage, and track your nutrition?
This ain't the goddamn club for you.
Instead, this is the club for all of the former fixed gear kids: for those
whose knees no longer really work correctly, but whose hearts sure still do.
At ETGF we're all about getting on your bike, riding around, eating
questionable food from the nearest gas station, and having a good
time. We don't give a shit what kind of bike you ride, and we certainly
don't give a shit about what kind of clothing you wear. All we care about is
riding bikes, pushing yourself as a human, and having fun.
THURSDAY NIGHT RIDES
We ride every 3rd warm(ish) Thursday night (weather permitting) at
Roger Williams Park. We meet at 5:30 PM (ish), and we start at 5:45 PM (sharp).
For up-to-date information about the status of the ride on any given week,
please check our
Strava
or
Instagram
pages.
We meet
here.
There is a parking lot with ample spots if you would like to drive
to the ride.
After the ride we meet back up at the starting point, eat snacks, and
hang out.
Bring a snack! Come hang out!
There will be 2 riding groups available depending on your skill level:
Normal (Razzle)
12-14 mph average pace, 2 laps (8 miles), no drop (you will not be left
behind)
Fast (Dazzle)
15 mph average pace, 2-3 laps (8-12 miles)
You do not need any special bike nor bike clothing to participate. It is
preferred that riders use a single speed or fixed gear bike for this
particular ride. Geared bikes are definitely welcome as well, however this
is not a traditional group road ride and we don't go super fast. If you
plan on showing up riding a Cervelo and wearing a skinsuit, please
don't come. There are a million other rides out there for that style of riding.
Weekly Ride Rules
1. Don't Ride Like An Asshole
You are not a fixed gear messenger bike god riding in NYC. You are just
some person riding a bike around a residential park in the smallest state
in the union. Don't blow through stop signs, don't squeeze between cars,
let families walk safely through crosswalks, etc. If you ride like a dick,
we will ask you to not come back.
2. Don't Act Like An Asshole
We all want to ride bikes, eat snacks, hang out, and have fun. That's it.
Don't talk about controversial shit, don't be a racist asshole, etc.
3. Be On Time
We are beginning the ride promptly at 5:45 PM, so please allow yourself
enough time to unload your bike and prepare. The park can be somewhat
confusing, so if you are unfimilar with the layout please show up early
enough to have time to find the starting point. If you show up at 5:40 PM
and still have to unload your bike from the car, put on your gear, eat a
snack, etc., we don't care and will absolutely leave without you.
Please respect everyone else's time commitments.
4. Wear A Helment
Didn't bring one or don't wear one? You don't ride with us this week.
5. You Are Responsible For You
We are not responsible for your safety. You
have chosen to ride your bike with us, and you will deal with whatever
consequences those decisions bring about. Crashes happen and they absolutely
suck for everyone involved, but we can't prevent crashes, and we can't
guarantee your saftey. Ride at your own risk.
6. Bring A Flat Tire Repair Solution (Optional)
We will all encounter a flat tire at some point. It would be helpful if you
could bring a spare tube (preferred) or a patch kit for when this happens.
While we would love to help and/or teach you how to fix a flat, we may
not have the materials to help you get riding again.
